Preventing hepatitis C

The best ways to prevent getting hepatitis C:

• Don’t share personal items like toothbrushes or razors.
• Only get tattoos or skin piercings from licensed, trained professionals and be careful about getting them done overseas.
• Only use your own or new needles and syringes for injecting drugs and never share drug injecting equipment.
• Use condoms and lubricants.

Only using your own or new needles, syringes and other injecting equipment is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others from hepatitis C. Free needles and injecting equipment are available from Needle and Syringe Programs (NSPs) and some chemists.
